Mission: To promote safe, quality, and affordable working class housing in North Texas.

Purpose: The North Texas Housing Coalition (NTHC) facilitates construction and homeownership for low-to-moderate income working families and individuals. 

NTHC Initiatives:

  • The Homeownership Center (THC) works to increase the level of successful homeownership among households in North Texas by providing effective and comprehensive preparation through counseling, training and education.
  • Educates the community on working class/affordable housing with quarterly seminars and the annual Housing Summit.
  • Supports funding and initiatives to help increase affordable, working class housing through city bond funding, general funds/federal dollars for down payment assistance and staff support and the State of Texas Housing Trust Fund.
  • Coordinates the local With Ownership Wealth (WOW) program of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

Accomplishments:

  • In 1998, hosted the first Affordable Housing Summit in North Texas. In 2009 we will be hosting the 10th annual Housing Summit. 
  • Changed name from the Dallas Affordable Housing Coalition (DAHC) to the North Texas Housing Coalition (NTHC), expanding the reach of the organization.
  • Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson named NTHC as the coordinator for the local efforts of With Ownership Wealth (WOW), a program of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation to encourage minority homeownership.
  • Launched The Homeownership Center (THC) to increase the level of successful homeownership among households in North Texas by providing effective and comprehensive preparation through counseling, training and education.
  • Hosts the “10 Weeks to Homeownership – WOW” program, geared to first-time homebuyers to help prepare them to purchase a home within or immediately after completing the program.
  • Leads the Dallas Homeownership Preservation Enterprise Partnership (HOPE).  HOPE aims to reduce the number of foreclosures in the North Texas region by providing free phone counseling through non-profit intermediaries affiliated with HOPE. 
  • Instituted as a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) certified homebuyer-counseling agency.
  • Approved as a Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) homebuyer- counseling agency through The Enterprise Foundation.
