The North Texas Housing Coalition Celebrates National Home Ownership Month
Foreclosure survival tips focus of housing coalition

June 2008 marks the sixth anniversary of “National Home Ownership Month” designated by President George Bush in 2002 as a way to add more homeowners by the end of the decade. Join the North Texas Housing Coalition (NTHC) during the month of June in recognizing how the power of owning a home can change the lives of people and enhance the communities that make up our cities.

Affordable, working class housing affects everyone in North Texas and helps to build strong families, vibrant communities and a stronger North Texas. The NTHC offers many resources on affordable and working class housing education, information and advocacy so that our firemen, teachers, retail workers and others can buy their first homes.

Foreclosure prevention seminars are just one way the NTHC offers help to North Texas citizens. The most critical key to staving off a home foreclosure is reaching out saying you need help. Other tips include:

  • Early communication is key – contact your lender as soon as you realize you have a problem.
  • Don’t ignore mail or phone calls from your lender, they only want to help you keep your home.
  • Set up a repayment schedule that is manageable.
  • Prioritize spending.
  • Contact a HUD-approved housing counselor such as the NTHC.
